BRIDGES DEL PONTE

A Love of Words, A Passion for Writing

About Bridges

My life-long love of words originally drew me to law school where the written and spoken word are king.  I practiced law with government and hi-tech companies before finding my true calling as a law professor where I publish regularly in my field.  My national and regional publications in law reviews and journals emphasize the intersection of law and policy in intellectual property, technology, dispute resolution, and workplace discrimination and privacy matters. I am the recipient of two national Hoeber Awards for excellence in published articles on legal education and been a national finalist for the Holmes-Cardozo Award for excellence in an unpublished legal manuscript.

In the non-fiction arena, I have written and published two books and numerous articles in the legal and travel fields.  My books, book chapters, and manuals have been published by Prentice Hall, West Educational, Elgar Publishing and Amicus Books. My published articles have appeared in The Boston Sunday Globe, Hemispheres, The Roanoke Times, Richmond Times-Dispatch, Alternatives, and LegalZoom. My essay, Brick, about my father’s love of words and robust debate appeared in the 2010 anthology, Living Lessons (Whispering Angel Books)I served on the editorial boards of two legal publications: Business Law Review (North Atlantic edition) and the Journal for Dispute Resolution in Business.

I love to travel and have had the opportunity to visit Aruba, Belgium, England, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Jamaica, Luxembourg, Mexico, Portugal, Spain, Trinidad-Tobago, Turks and Caicos,  and Wales, and lived for five months in Australia—a life-changing experience. I also enjoy traveling and exploring my home state of Florida and the United States. Venice is my favorite city with Barcelona a close second so far. I hope one day to visit the pyramids of Egypt and the ruins and islands of Greece. My travels often focus on my love of art, architecture, and theater as well as walking, hiking and biking in the outdoor world.  These trips inspire me with awe of the creative abilities of people and the wonders of the natural world and fuel my insatiable curiosity about other peoples and cultures.

Recently, I have begun to write and publish in the fiction field. I wrote a legal thriller/mystery set in Boston, entitled Deadly Sacrifices (currently under agent review). I have completed a draft of an underwater fantasy, Bridles of Poseidon (currently in critique phase), an exciting around the world adventure. Short form fiction also interests me and I have written various science fiction and slice-of-life short stories. Currently, I am a member of the Florida Writers Association and Sisters in Crime, Inc.
